Adobe illustrator scale pattern fill

Take a moment to explore the Pattern Options Panel. Most of the options are self-explanatory. Go ahead and give your pattern a new name, and feel free to change the Tile Type , Width , and Height.

You can copy mine from the image above. The important thing to remember when exploring design software like Adobe Illustrator is that usually nothing is permanent, mistakes can be fixed, adjustments can be made, and the best way to learn is to screw it all up. I decided to make a simple pattern inspired by high fashion. Fouis Fuitton, if you will. Raise your hand if every popular girl at your Middle School had a small Louis Vuitton handbag in that rainbow monogram pattern.

Obviously, you should make something that inspires you. Let your creativity shine! Cheetah, leopard, and honeycomb patterns come to mind as ones you could get a ton of use out of. Now once we create our pattern, it will become a swatch and once we have the swatch, we could just go into our Swatches Panel and click on our desired pattern. Now there are multiple ways to scale a pattern fill. But as you can see if I click transform patterns off, it will do the opposite.

When we go into the appearance panel, you are just going to select Fill and then click the desired pattern fill that you want. Now the way to get rid of that would be to individually go to each text object and remove the swatch. Sometimes it can be a little tricky with the Appearance panel because not everything that you see there is going to show in the Appearance Panel. The reason for this is because our text is grouped together. And then individually, take each text object and apply the Fill Color and the desired pattern.

Then if we go to transform scale, we can scale the pattern down without affecting our text. To escape out of that, we will then apply the second fill in the Appearance panel over the other color swatch.

When Scaling uncheck "Transform object". Double-click the Pattern to open Pattern edit mode and take a screen shot of the dialog and the pattern editing. Post Reply. Preview Exit Preview. You must be signed in to add attachments.
