May the kingdom of God come to my soul, in my life, in my home, in my workplace, in my ministry, in my church, in Korea, and in all heat, and may your will be fulfilled. Jesus the Amen Lord, come! Then I'll meet you in heaven! Tracing the origins of daily prayer from the New Testament and Patristic period, through the Reformation and Renaissance to the present, this book examines the development of daily rites across a broad range of traditions including: Pre-Crusader Constantinopolitan, East and West Syrian, Coptic and Ethiopian, non-Roman and Roman Western.
Structure, texts and ceremonial are examined, and contemporary scholarship surveyed. Concluding with a critique of the present tenor of liturgical revision, Gregory Woolfenden raises key questions for current liturgical change, suggests to whom these questions should be addressed, and proposes that the daily office might be the springboard for an authentic baptismal spirituality.
The author explores how prayer and poetic texts indicate that the thrust of the ancient offices was a movement from night to morning - from death to resurrection. As a child most of us of faith were taught a special prayer. It went something like this: Now i lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul he keep if I shoud die before I wake I pray the Lord my soul he take.
The truth is that all of the world are now spiritually dead and many Christians are drifting off into a spiritual sleep of darkness. The Devil have blinded the eyes of those that believe not on the Son of God! He take them captive at his will as most do not believe in his existence! He is real and he is roaming this earth as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour! Christians are instructed to be sober, be viligent and watch unto prayer as the Devil is the great adversary!
Many have been caught in his trap as many play with him, in that, many dip and dab in and out of the world involving themselves in fleshly things!
The Devil have caused many to drift to sleep and it is while they sleep that he will set in to steal, to kill and to destroy their very souls! We are told that the night is far spent and the day is as hand, let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light! In the pages of this book I take you on a journey back into time, a time that a man by the name of Samson, played with the Devil and ultimately drifted off into this spiritual sleep as he lie on the knees of Dalilah a weapon formed by the Devil in order to destroy Samson!
While she caused him to sleep on her knee after a period of vexing the very soul of Samson he revealed to her why he was stronger than any other man and what would weaken him to become as any other man! It was while he slept that the Devil took advantage and bound him, blinded him and cast him into prison. When Samson woke from this spiritual sleep he found himself as any other man and completely helpless for God had departed from him!
Although the hair of his head had began to grow back, his great strength did not return until he prayed to God asking for strength to revenge what the Devil had done to him: Samson awake out of sleep before he died with the Philistines!
I take the prayer that most of us were taught as a child and I turn it around just a little bit to open the eyes of the spiritually blind in the world as well as those Christians that have drifted off into this spiritual sleep because of playing with the Devil in some form or the other! To Christians that are spiritually awake, even if death should come before they wake; we go from death to life but for those that are spiritually asleep if death should come while they are asleep; will go from death unto death!
It is vital to one's soul that one should wake before they die! To be asleep is to be oblivious to being oblivious. If anything will be our undoing, sleep will. This book proposes that Mark's Gospel was written in late 71 for the traumatised Christians of Rome, who feared further arrests after Titus' return from Jerusalem, to help them face their fears and forgive those who had already failed.
Jesus taught by his words and actions. He went by himself to pray when he was tired, when faced with upcoming trying events, or when he just wanted to be alone in the presence of his Lord. He gave us guidance about what to pray, how to pray, and why to pray, and was very familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures. Thus, if we want to become Jesus' disciple we should follow his model and invest time and emotional energy into prayer, Bible study, and reflection.

The history of Bible translation within the Catholic Church is characterized by a rich tradition of rendering the Scriptures into the language of the faith community. The CCNT features eight complete Catholic New Testaments that show the full range of expression for this central text of study, worship, prayer, and contemplation.
A wide spectrum of people - including new and experienced Bible readers, homilists, and teachers - will gain from having this resource on their bookshelves. This means that scholars rendered the New Testament's original language into English that is as close as possible to its original wording.
The result is a translation that is particularly valuable for careful analysis of the text. This method places the priority on the intended meaning of the original vocabulary, adapting it to English syntax and grammar.
Such a translation tends to be easier to read and understand. The texts are conveniently displayed on facing pages four translations per page , with the same set of verses on each one. The order in which the translations appear on the pages demonstrates a progression in translation philosophy from formal to functional equivalency.
